Quaich & Banter: Reviews & Ratings
Amazing gem ,Jeff was funny and great service. Food was top notch. Had a first try of many Scottish favourites. Their 4 course tasting page was so worth it! Fish soup was flavourful and biscuit fluffy. The scotch egg was perfectly soft yoke and crispy outside, with the beet salad. The steak was melt in your mouth, with potatoes and tender broccoli, with white potatoes and a peppercorn gravy( good but was my least favourite of the whole meal, some herb or spice in there, that did not pair well in my personal opinion). And then the sticky pudding, small ice cream, with a fluffy chocolate cake, but the best part is the perfectly cooked, warm caramel sauce! If they wanted to , would sell by the jar ...this place is a gem in Picton, and so worth the drive from Kingston. A little piece of Scotland on this side of the world... MAKE A RESERVATION! As even on a Wednesday( wing night) was a filled place in the two hours we were there. Hubby had a few other things that he also enjoyed. Will ne back!
Wow, like I told our server Jeff tonight, our only regret is not having visited this AMAZING restaurant sooner! A colleague of mine has been raving about Quaich and Banter for months, so we finally took the time to give it a try. Excellent all around. Jeff was super knowledgeable about the whiskeys, the history and other tidbits of information about the dishes and cooking processes and that made the experience that much more enjoyable. Knowing that the food is sourced within 100kms wherever possible is also amazing. We tried some whiskey, cocktails, the sampler plate which came with 2 different appetizers, incredible AAA Prime rib with haggis, and sticky toffee pudding with ice cream! Also tried the braised lamb shank. Fall of the bone tender and flavorful. We went all out with drinks and multiple apps, mains and dessert so it was a $200 meal, but it could easily be $50 or less per person with many other incredible dishes that were around $20-30 for a hearty sized plate of food. We'll be back
Came for the Sunday Roast and it absolutely didn’t disappoint. A real hidden gem, easily one of the best restaurants in Picton. Great starters; we went with the beet and apple feta salad and the shrimp cocktail. My wife and I both had the prime rib roast, absolutely outstanding. Five stars. If you haven’t tried it, this is your calling next Sunday. The sticky toffee pudding was next level,a must-try. And a proper pint of Guinness, too!
Review We loved the Quaich & Banter so much, we had dinner there two days in a row! We were thrilled to discover this comparatively new Scottish restaurant, just minutes by car from Main Street Picton. The food is outstanding…beautifully prepared, with fresh ingredients and everything made from scratch, producing dishes that are authentically Scottish, and absolutely delicious. Also, the servers were attentive and friendly. We are both British and being at the Quaich and Banter was like being in a high-end gastro-pub in Edinburgh with an A-list chef running the kitchen. We highly recommend the Cullen Skink soup, Scotch Eggs, Fish and Chips, Haggis Croquettes with Whisky Sauce, the Sunday Roast (which included a Yorkshire pudding, perfect gravy, plus the best roast potatoes I’ve ever had in a restaurant, on either side of the Atlantic) and a superb apple and blackberry crumble. How I wish there was a restaurant like this in Toronto! If you are looking for quality, delicious food, carefully prepared and served in a welcoming, friendly and Scottish atmosphere, then look no further if you are in the County. Also, we found it reasonably priced, which should mean that the Quaich & Banter will be a wee piece of Scotland that locals & visitors will flock to regularly. Hasten ye back!
Love the many different options of Scotch, especially when pur server Jeff came by to give me an overview of what I was drinking even though I didn't have the tasting flight. He was very knowledgeable and made our lunch there that much more enjoyable. The Fish sanswich of the day, the fish cakes were great and the sticky toffee pudding was delicious and best we have tasted anywhere! A must visit when in Picton especially if you love Scotch as much as I do!
Great restaurant the atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the food is excellent. The service was perfect thank you again for such a wonderful experience.
Jeff is the man, the welcoming, smiling face of Quaich & Banter. I was visiting, from Toronto, with my family and wanted to treat them to Friday Fish and Chips at the Quaich. Unfailingly delicious. It was incredible! Thank you so much for the memory!
What a wonderful edition to Prince Edward County! The food was outstanding the atmosphere is cozy. We had our anniversary dinner with friends here and could not have picked a better place! We did not have the whiskey drinks but if you’re interested they have an outstanding selection of scotch to choose from. Would definitely recommend and go back.

Nestled in the heart of Picton, Quaich & Banter stands as a genuine culinary gem that bridges the spirit of Scotland with the charm of Ontario's Prince Edward County. This cozy restaurant delivers an authentic Scottish gastro-pub experience, where every dish tells a story through carefully sourced local ingredients and expert craftsmanship.
From the moment you step inside, the warm, inviting atmosphere is complemented by attentive service—led by knowledgeable staff like Jeff, whose passion for Scotch whisky and Scottish culture enriches your dining journey. Quaich & Banter shines most brightly through its thoughtfully curated menu, which offers both classic and innovative Scottish fare.
The four-course tasting menu is a highlight not to be missed. Standout dishes include a richly flavoured Cullen Skink fish soup paired with airy, fluffy biscuits, creating a perfect balance of texture and warmth. The Scotch egg arrives with a perfectly soft yolk encased in a crispy shell, accompanied by a vibrant beet salad that refreshes the palate. Equally memorable is the melt-in-your-mouth AAA prime rib with haggis, showcasing both tender meat and traditional Scottish flair.
Each main, from the fall-apart tender braised lamb shank to the meticulously prepared Sunday roast complete with Yorkshire pudding and the best roast potatoes around, speaks to authenticity and depth of flavour. The peppercorn gravy, while expertly made, can spark some debate with its hint of unexpected herbs, proving the kitchen’s commitment to bold, distinct tastes.
No visit is complete without indulging in the signature sticky toffee pudding—served warm with fluffy chocolate cake and crowned by silky caramel sauce that could easily be bottled and treasured. This dessert perfectly encapsulates the balance of comfort and sophistication that Quaich & Banter offers.
Beyond the food, the passion for pairing Scottish whiskies and cocktails sourced with local care elevates the entire experience. Whether you’re a whisky connoisseur or a curious newcomer, the detailed insights shared by the staff deepen your appreciation and make each sip an exploration.
Quaich & Banter is more than a restaurant; it’s a slice of Scotland in Picton—an ideal spot for locals and visitors craving hearty, beautifully crafted dishes in a friendly, lively setting. Reasonably priced and consistently celebrated, this is a true highlight in Prince Edward County’s culinary scene and a must-visit for anyone eager to experience the heart of Scottish hospitality.
